Kenny isn’t my favourite but on my second rewatch I felt pretty sorry for him. And ALSO YES, ALL OF THAT. MCMANUS YOU ARE A DIPSHIT. My main problem is he’s so massively blinded to reality by his own bullshit.

Oh no, Kenny is a little shit, I do not dispute it, but no matter how he acts I still can’t get past him landing in a maximum-security prison when he was sixteen. I give him a pass on a lot of stuff because he’s a teenager.

Like I know McManus/Murphy is a thing, but WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT TO MURPHY?? I like McManus in theory/on paper, maybe? Or at least who McManus was when he decided Emerald City was what he wanted to do, because he still gives a fuck about rehabilitating lifers.

But he is such an arrogant, condescending, stupid motherfucker in execution that I honestly cannot. And when I’m not feeling charitable, I sometimes think he picks the worst of the worst not because he thinks they are still deserving of the second/third/fourth chance but because he wants to have the biggest successes and a way to excuse any failures. He’s such a whiny little shit, oh my god!

favourite canon pairing: said/tricia ross. it’s all intense, longing glances and sly hand-holding. it also does amazing stuff for said’s character, because he has that excellent, excellent moment with his sister where he says he’s not super pumped about being in love with a white woman, either, but if he pretends he doesn’t have those feelings for her, then oz - the prison, the system, the power - has beaten him. and eventually, of course, she leaves, and he lets her go, and he winds up on this downward spiral that ends with adebisi dead at his hands and his own alienation from god.

worst pairing ever: mcmanus/life. also a contestant in “most hilarious pairing ever” and “grossest pairing ever.” see also, my feels regarding diane/mcmanus, nathan/mcmanus, murphy/mcmanus. i, uh, i really hate mcmanus.

a pairing you want to see more: said/adebisi omg stealth otp. i think they took adebisi about as far as he could go with the s4 storyline, but if adewale hadn’t had to go film the mummy 2 (I HOPE IT WAS WORTH IT), i would have loved to have him around for the rest of the show, because the actors have mad chemistry and the characters are so diametrically opposed in thought and deed. their clashes were enthralling.
